Winch Selection Guide

We will need a brief, general description of what the winch is to be used for. But in order for us to size and specify the best machine for the job we will need some or all of the following information:

• Is it lifting or pulling?
• What weight is it lifting or pulling?
• If pulling, what are the ground/surface conditions?
• What rope length & diameter is required?
• What line speed is required?
• What power source is required/is available?
• Does the winch need a freewheeling clutch?
• What type of controls are required?
• Is multi-reeving involved?
• Any other specific requirements or information? E.G. hazardous or explosive environments, space or weight restrictions, specific certification etc..
